What The FDA's Newly Enacted Mammography Quality Standards Act MQSA Means For You
Today I have incredible news! The Mammography Quality Standards Act, or MQSA, is officially enacted. This ruling by the FDA ensures standardized mammography care across the entire United States. Now, every woman and person getting a mammogram will receive a notification about dense breast tissue.
This monumental step, spearheaded by the late Nancy Capello, empowers us all to take control of our breast health is a moment to celebrate.
Visit our website for crucial questions to ask at your mammogram appointment. Together, we're moving forward. Stay informed, stay strong!
What it means for you:
1) Today every person receiving a mammogram will be notified whether or not they have dense breast tissue.
2) The letter will only tell you if you “do” of “do not” have dense breast tissue.
3) You will need to talk to your provider to learn what classification of density you have on a range from 1 - 4.
Note: Your breast density status can change over your lifetime so you will want to pay attention to these notifications over the years even if you were told you do not have dense breast tissue.
This is a big first step in removing some of the many barriers to care. Our best defense is still advocacy and community care.
